Meetings
meet friends every month
We meet at the Victoria Institute at 7:30pm on the first Thursday of every month, except August. There are a few accessible parking spaces available directly outside or there are plenty of places to park nearby. If you need a lift, let us know and it can be arranged.
At each meeting, we have a guest speaker or an activity. Hopefully, you will learn or experience something new. In the past, we have had craft and cookery demonstrations, exercise and wellbeing sessions, talks on history and local issues. Subjects are varied and there is a programme available on our Facebook page so take a look to see what topics are coming up.
We have a chance to socialise over refreshments. We also discuss upcoming events, WI news and campaigns. If you are new, we will always say hello and introduce you to someone to sit with for your first visits. Everyone is friendly.
Another part of most meetings is a competition between members connected to the theme of the evening. Entries do not have to be homemade but can be. In the past, we have brought in items connected to bees, a bookmark, a favourite recipe. Members vote for their favourite using coins of any amount. The winner is the item with the most coins placed nearby. All monies collected go to the ACWW (Associated Country Women of the World): a charity supporting women worldwide. You can find out more about the work of the ACWW here.
